Hey Guys, last week the podcast turned 1! What?? Incredible! It’s been whole year. It’s also been an awesome learning experience for me and a privilege to help people this way. Plus it’s so fun to see the numbers grow each week. As of today there have been over 11 thousand 400 downloads. 11 thousand…what?? I think it’s amazing!
I also know that there are tons of podcasts that have way more than 11,000 downloads for just a single episode. So I could have lots of different thoughts about comparing my numbers to theirs, to me this is a great example to show the power of thoughts. And you know I’m all about teaching about that here on the podcasts. Thoughts are powerful! They are the most powerful line of the F-TEAR formula.
So let’s look at that for a minute. My download numbers are data points. They are Facts in my formula. And they aren’t good facts or bad facts until I add my thoughts to them.
So about my downloads number, I could think, “Dang, that’s amazing!” “I’m helping lots of people.” or I could think, “It’s been a whole year, I should definitely have more than that.” “This is growing too slowly.” or lots of other thoughts like that, which feel terrible.
So I definitely choose to think this is amazing and I really do believe it is.
Aside from the download numbers for the podcast, I know there are also people who are listening to it without downloading it. I don’t have a way to keep track of those but I wish I did.
So this is another opportunity to look at the power of thoughts. I can think something like, “It’s probably not very many.” or I can choose to think something like, “It might be at least 10 times the amount that have been downloaded.” Which would be more than 100 and 14 thousand. Either way I’m making it up. I may as well make it up in a way that I like; a way that encourages me rather than discourages me.
Now, it’s true that we humans make things up when we don’t know the facts, and this is an important thing to be able to identify. I don’t know how many times my podcast episodes have been listened to so my brain automatically wants to make it up. Our default is to make things up in a negative way. It’s the way our brains are wired. It’s that negativity bias that I’ve talked about before. It’s the default but it’s not our only option. When we’re being intentional we can make things up in a way that serves us better. Lots of people choose to see that as delusional, “You’re making up something that isn’t true.” But to that I say, it’s no more delusional than making it up negatively. Either way it’s made up And I like this way better.
So there you go. That’s what I have for you today. Start noticing where you are making things up in a negative way and give yourself permission to make it up in a way that you like better. Have fun with that. You just might get better results.
And I want to thank you for your support here. It’s been a great year and I’m sticking around for a lot more. I hope you will too. And tell your friends so we can keep growing these numbers.
I’m Coach Mimi and I’ll be here next time In The Good Guy Corner.
